Approved Courses/Experiences for VEE
Individual Credit for Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) Topics
Candidates may submit the “Application for Validation by Educational Experience Credit” along with the required documentation, for their individual VEE credits, provided that the following conditions have been met:
- The candidate has passed at least two actuarial examinations with the SOA or CAS.
- The courses/experiences have been approved and are listed in the Directory of Approved VEE
Courses/Experiences or the Standardized Exams and Other Educational
Experiences list. (These lists are updated regularly as additional courses/experiences
are approved.)Please note: Candidates may NOT submit VEE credit applications for partial credit (e.g., an approved regression course may not be submitted alone, but must be accompanied on the same application by an approved time series course). Candidates may not submit an application for VEE credit for a topic until they have completed all requirements for that topic.

VEE Approval of Courses for Inclusion in the Directory
Only courses/experiences that are listed in the “Directory of Approved VEE Courses/Experiences” or in the list of “Standardized Exams and Other Educational Experiences” may be used for VEE credit. If a candidate wishes to use a course for VEE credit that is not on an approved list, the candidate should:
- Contact the educational institution to determine whether an application has already been submitted to have the course/educational experience approved. If not, you can encourage the institution to submit for approval using the application and guidelines found here.
- If the educational institution does not intend to submit an application to have the course/educational experience approved, a candidate may gather the required documentation (course description and syllabus) and submit a course approval application directly.
The VEE Administration Committee will review course approval submissions. If approved, the course/experience will be added to the “Directory of Approved VEE Courses/Experiences” or list of “Standardized Exam/Other Experiences.” If the course/experience is not approved, the candidate will have to obtain VEE credit using another option.
Finding your course(s) in the Directory:
Click on the "Directory" link below and look for your course(s) by Institution, then by VEE topic. A combination of courses may be required for a specific VEE topic. If more than one course is listed on a single line, all courses on that line are required for that VEE topic requirement.Approval dates:
Check the start and end dates of the approved courses. If you took an approved course during the approved time frame, and received a B- or better, you will be able to use the course for VEE credit (other grading formats will be noted in the Directory when applicable).Approval code:
Make a note of the approval code listed for your approved VEE courses. This code will be needed to complete the Application for Validation by Educational Experience Credit.Candidates may combine two approved courses/experiences to complete a VEE topic requirement. For example, an approved microeconomics course from a university may be combined with an approved macroeconomics course from another school or provider. Likewise, an approved regression course may be combined with an approved time series course from two different providers. In these cases candidates should include approval codes from both approved courses on their individual VEE credit application form.

I found my course(s). Now what?
Candidates who have credit for at least two actuarial examinations may submit applications for VEE credit. In addition to the application, you are required to arrange for an official transcript to be submitted to the VEE Administrator. The Application for Validation by Educational Experience Credit, including specific directions, is available at the link at the top of this page.Standardized exams and other experiences:
In addition to receiving VEE credit for the courses listed on the “Directory of Approved VEE Courses/Experiences,” candidates may also be eligible to receive VEE credit from the completion of approved standardized exams or other educational experiences. Eligibility requirements (e.g., required score or grade) are included in the “Standardized Exams and Other Experiences” list at the link below. The Application for Validation by Educational Experience Credit must be completed to receive credit for these options as well. (Please note that credit for the CAS Transitional VEE Exams will be automatically applied to your record for VEE. Candidates are not required to submit a VEE credit application for those exams.)Standardized Exams and Other Educational Experiences list (Updated 04/15/08)
What if I can’t find my course(s) or other experience(s)?
If you do not find your course(s) or other experience listed in the Directory or Standardized Exam/Other Experiences list, please refer to the details in the section titled “Approval of Courses for VEE Topics for Inclusion in the Directory” above. Please do not contact the SOA, CAS or CIA to see if your institution has submitted an application. This will only slow the process. When will I receive credit?
A candidate with credit for at least two actuarial examinations with the SOA or CAS may submit an Application for individual VEE Credit along with documentation of the required grade (B- or better unless otherwise noted). Once the application and transcript have been received and validated, credit for the specific VEE topic will be granted. The candidate will receive a response regarding each application.
